SUPER LEGION BROS. 2019

Howdy! Legion will be hosting our first annual Super Smash Bros.™ Ultimate spring tournament on April 14, 2019! All proceeds of the event will go towards benefiting Camp Sweeney, a 19-day transformative summer camp experience for kids diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

EVENT DETAILS:

Date: Sunday, April 14, 2019

Time: 10AM - 3PM (Please arrive 30 mins early for check-in)

Location: Zachry 415

Registration fee: $10 payable through venmo @Legion-Philanthropy or $15 cash at the door.

  • Venmo payment should include your full name and nickname (if applicable).

Prices:

  • 1st place: $100 gift card

  • 2nd place: $50 gift card

  • 3rd place: $25 gift card

Food and refreshments will be provided!

TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE AND RULES:

Structure:

  • The tournament will begin with free-for-all pools to determine bracket placement, followed by a double elimination singles bracket tournament. Details below.

  • All participants will play in a minimum of three (3), 4-player free-for-all matches through which they will earn points according to their placement on each match as follows:

    • 1st place - 4 pts.

    • 2nd place - 3 pts.

    • 3rd place - 2 pts.

    • 4th place - 1 pt.

    • Match rules:

      • 4-player free-for-all, 3 stocks, 10 minutes, no items, random stage (hazards off).

  • The 32 participants with the highest amount of points will advance into the Winner’s Bracket. If multiple participants are tied for top 32, these players will face off in another free-for-all match with the same rules listed above for the 32nd spot.

  • Winner’s Bracket:

    • 1 v 1 - 3 stocks, 10 minutes, no items, stage hazards off.

    • First stage will be chosen based on a coin-flip or rock-paper-scissors, after that it will be loser’s pick.

    • Stage list contains 11 different stages for players to choose from (listed below), all other stages are banned.

    • Sets will be best out of 3.

    • Losing participants will fall into the Loser’s Bracket where they’ll have another chance at advancing to the Grand Finals.

  • Loser’s Bracket:

    • 1 v 1 - 3 stocks, 10 minutes, no items, stage hazards off.

    • First stage will be chosen based on a coin-flip or rock-paper-scissors, after that it will be loser’s pick.

    • Stage list contains 11 different stages for players to choose from (listed below), all other stages are banned.

    • Sets will be best out of 3.

    • Losing participants will be eliminated from the tournament.

  • Third place:

    • Third place (and the corresponding price) will be given to the losing participant of the Loser’s Bracket finals.

  • Grand Finals:

    • The winner from the Winner’s Bracket will face-off against the winner from the Loser’s Bracket in a Grand Finals set with the following rules:

      • 1 v 1, 3 stocks, 10 minutes, no items, stage hazards off.

      • First stage will be chosen based on a coin-flip or rock-paper-scissors, after that it will be loser’s pick.

      • Stage list contains 11 different stages for players to choose from (listed below), all other stages are banned.

      • Sets will be best out of 5.

      • The finalist from the Winner’s Bracket must win one set to win the tournament, whereas the finalist from the Loser’s Bracket must win two sets (double elimination).

  • Top-32 Stage List:

    • Battlefield, Final Destination, Lylat Cruise, Pokemon Stadium 2, Smashville, Castle Siege, Kalos Pokemon League, Town & City, Unova Pokemon League, Yoshi’s Island (Brawl), Yoshi’s Story.

Rules:

  • Participants should bring their own controller, otherwise they can check out a controller (limited number available) for a $5 fee. Not every station will have a gamecube controller adaptor so we encourage you to bring your own if possible.

  • All participants will be able to edit their controller settings as they see fit.

  • We will be using the latest patch for the game that has been released by the start of the tournament.

  • Unfortunately, no DLC characters will be available for this tournament. This includes Piranha Plant and Joker. All other characters will be unlocked and available.

  • Play fairly. No teaming up on a single player during free-for-all matches. Players observed doing this will be given a warning and then removed from the tournament if this behavior persists.

  • Be respectful and maintain a calm attitude. No aggressive behavior (physical or verbal) will be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to: throwing controllers or chairs, physically or verbally assaulting other participants, and being aggressive or disrespectful in any way towards staff members.

  • All tournament rules are subject to modification during the event as deemed necessary by tournament staff to keep play as fair as possible (typically only in the event of unforeseen circumstances). Judgement of tournament staff is final.
